Testimony Time
Testimonials come to me in the most interesting ways. Today, while having dinner with friends we were discussing being ready for opportunities. Sometimes people focus so much on the goal that they don’t even realize that they may not be prepared for it when it’s given to them. (Skipping steps along paths to success leads to this phenomenon.)
To be clear, I’m aware that there are many ways to arrive at a destination. Wanting something so bad that you neglect the tasks and training to be able to execute when it’s in front of you though? That’s a reality check.
My testimony came from realizing that a promotion setback really set me up to be exactly where I want to be. I wasn’t terribly sad that I wasn’t promoted back in 2019, but I felt like I’d prepared for it. so I was a bit surprised when it didn’t happen for me. I told myself to keep working hard and my time would come. Meanwhile, I had been pursuing a new job opportunity to become a teacher at a different location. Well, timing ends up being perfect for me, because in 2020 a position opened up and they needed someone at my level to fill it so I applied. Had I been promoted the year before, I would not have been able to apply for that particular role. It felt like fate. I ended up being selected for the job, and not even a week later, found out I was being promoted as well. It was a double blessing, and it happened when it was supposed to. That extra year of development made me feel truly ready to step into this new position. I still have some doubts and imposter syndrome issues, but I know I’m capable.
This was just a small example of how timing is everything. You may not be able to control all of the variables, but you can control how you respond to them and make adjustments as needed to continue your growth.
