Research and Development

This weekend I spent a lot of time researching the science behind blogging and monetization, not because I’m trying to do that right now. We’re not even close to that step yet, but I do want to set myself up for success when it is time. Some important things that I took note of were:

  • Self-hosting/WordPress vs. Site Builders like Squarespace and Wix

  • Adsense

  • Web development learning curves

  • SEO

  • Google Ranking

I just wanted to make a mental note here because I think there are a few changes I’ll be making before I hit six months. I have been keeping up with being consistent, which is huge for me. This month of writing has shown me what type of posts I want to put more effort into publishing. It’s also shown me how often I can publish quality every week. In February, I’ll move from publishing once a day to a different schedule so I can still write daily, but focus on the quality of the 2-3 posts that I publish weekly. I also want to use February to focus on content creation. I dabbled a lot in my MySpace days (I mean who didn’t?), and want to get back into the design aspects of web development, video editing, and design. So while I’ll be writing daily, that extra time will also be spent coming up with video and imagery that I can call my own. I’ve already started on my social media platforms as testing grounds.

Overall, while I want to be successful, I want to show myself that my consistency can lead to a finished project. Starting this and writing daily was one box checked off validating the idea that I can do it. The next big step is getting back into my writing course and finishing my book. My exploration into self-publishing will be well documented, I might even figure out newsletters to get my readers updated.

Stay tuned for those and as always, thank you for reading!
